I know, I know....It has been a while since I've written reviews on the Hump Day Dinner restaurants. So, here's a blog post that will bring you up to date.
Hump Day Dinner #110Chik N Char10912 South Memorial Drive

If you can imagine a fast food restaurant with semi-healthy food, then this pretty much sums up Chik N Char. The restaurant specializes in grilled chicken. Consumers can choose from an Original Char, which consists of white or dark meat, a side, rice and pita bread or a Signature Char, which is a salad or wrap. I ordered the Signature Char (Chicken Caesar Wrap) and there was plenty of food for me, but there wasn't enough food for Andrew, who ordered the Original Char. Situated in Bixby, the experience at Chik N Char was very enjoyable. It's a very efficient and inexpensive restaurant and the employees are happy to serve you. I look forward to eating at Chik N Char in the future.
*Andrew and I were in and out in less than 30 minutes and we paid no more than $14.00 on dinner.

Hump Day Dinner #111Mr. Mambo3326 South Elm Place
Broken Arrow, OK 74012-7923

When I received the weekly Hump Day Dinner e-mail, I didn't know what to expect when I saw the group was eating at this mexican restaurant in Broken Arrow....come on, it's called Mr. Mambo. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the experience though. Our waitress was attentive, the decor was festive (minus the decorative paper plates stapled to the wall) and most of the food was really good. What do I mean by most of the food?? Well, Andrew and I ordered chicken fajitas. The chips, salsa and queso were great. The grilled vegetables, rice and tortillas were even awesome. Unfortunately, the chicken was so bland! It was definitely a mood kill. If they seasoned the chicken, then it would be an all-around good mexican restaurant, which is very hard to find. Because of the chicken and the moderately expensive prices, I would much rather have chicken fajitas at The Brook than at Mr. Mambos.

Within the past year, a frozen yogurt war has begun in Tulsa. There have been numerous establishments pop up around town. All named after fruit, you can get frozen yogurt from Freshberry, PeachWave, OrangeLeaf, Cherry Berry, etc. One of the most recently opened stores is Cherry Berry, which is located across the road from the new Hideaway Pizza in Broken Arrow. I really liked Cherry Berry because the frozen yogurt flavors were slightly different. You can get favorites like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, but also special flavors like birthday cake, banana pudding and acai berry. For my frozen yogurt creation, I mixed banana pudding and birthday cake with chocolate chips. I don't mean to brag, but it was delicious! The best thing about the self serve frozen yogurt is you pay by the ounce ($0.39/oz), so you determine your total. (A friendly tip: just beware on how much frozen yogurt you actually put in your cup.) With Cherry Berry being close to work, I look forward to visiting again when I'm looking for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Hump Day Dinner #113Campus Grill3148 East 11th Street

Located in the same space as the old Hardwoods bar, Campus Grill is across the street from the University of Tulsa. This very inexpensive establishment is popular with TU faculty, staff and students. It serves an assortment of food, which is all delicious. You'll find everything from shrimp po-boy sandwiches and chicken tenders to breakfast omelets and home fries. Unlike many places, you can order breakfast here anytime of the day. The home cut fries were one of my favorite items and I can't wait to try the homemade potato chips next time. The employees were very friendly and made you feel very welcomed. The Campus Grill is the perfect place to visit when you're getting ready to watch a game at Skelly Field. Personally, I look forward to visiting Campus Grill again during the upcoming football season!
Hump Day Dinner #114Gyros Palace
6119 East 31st Street
Tulsa, OK 74135-5411
(918) 832-9943
Unfortunately, the experience at Gyros Palace wasn't a good one for half of our Hump Day Dinner crew. We learned last night to NEVER order the philly steak sandwich, but to only get the gyros. The people who ordered the gyros received their order within 10-15 minutes and said it was really good. The Hump Day Dinner crew members, who chose the philly steak sandwiches, had to wait upwards of 50 minutes and then the order was wrong. The cleaniness of the kitchen and bathroom were definitely questionably, so I just ordered pita break and french fries (I know...pathetic!) and I still had to wait 50 minutes for my order. While we sat at the table waiting for our food, let's just say the Mazzio's sign outside the Gyros Palace's window was very tempting. The owner did try to make matters right by refunding our check and giving us free pieces of baklava, but his comment of “I'm losing money tonight” was not appreciated. So, the moral of this story is to only order the gyros and don't go to the Gyros Palace with more than two people. Needless to say, I won't be visiting Gyros Palace again.
